We are happy with the new curtains and the deep teal color. It's a very rich color and makes the bedroom feel cozy. They are definitely blackout curtains--the room is very dark! I can't really tell a big difference in sound reduction, though, but maybe it dampens it a bit?

The material is gorgeous. Lovely silvery light blue color, white backing. Velvet texture. Heavy, elegant feeling. they hang just right. They bring the room upscale. They provide excellent darkness and in this season they keep the room cool. The backing is sewn very well and adds to the elegance. I am so glad I took the chance on HUES!

Honestly, these are insanely heavy. I actually had to get a stronger rod to hold them up, but it was worth it. The room is so much quieter now.

These curtains blocked the light but did nothing to damper the noise. Without the curtains it registered 45-50 decibles and with the curtains it was 35-40 decibels.

Häufig gestellte Fragen

Do these velvet soundproof curtains actually block noise?

Yes, but let's be real—they aren't magic walls. No fabric can completely silence a drum set next door. However, these use a specific 4-layer construction featuring a sound-absorbing sponge felt core to muffle the sharpness of outside noise. It turns the annoying bark of a dog or traffic hum into a distant background murmur so you can actually sleep. It's about significantly taking the edge off the chaos outside.

Are they seriously 100% blackout?

100%. I've tested "blackout" curtains before that still let in a ghostly glow when the sun hits them, but these are the real deal. Because of the 4-layer construction and specialized internal layers, they create a total seal. If you hold your hand up behind them at noon, you won't see it. This is a game-changer for nurseries, shift workers, or anyone who just hates that one annoying streetlight.

How heavy are they? Do I need a special rod?

Because of the 4-layer construction, they are significantly heavier than standard store-bought drapes. You absolutely need to secure your rod into wall studs or use heavy-duty anchors. Do not trust a tension rod with these! The weight is what makes them drape so luxuriously and seal the window effectively.

Can I put these in the washing machine?

Yes, they are safe to wash! To keep them in top condition, simply detach the felt liner before machine washing the curtains. Use a gentle cycle with cold water and a mild detergent. This allows you to maintain a clean home environment while protecting the specialized sound-absorbing and air-purifying layers. It's the best of both worlds: high performance and easy maintenance.

Will these help with drafty windows?

Big time. That thermal insulation barrier isn't just marketing fluff. It acts like a shield against cold drafts in the winter and blocks baking heat in the summer. A lot of people tell us their bedroom temperature feels much more stable after hanging these, which is great for your sleep quality (and your energy bill).

Why do I need 4 layers instead of just thick fabric?

It's about specialization. A single piece of thick fabric can't do it all. By bonding the face fabric and the blackout liner with two specialized internal layers—a sound-absorbing sponge felt and an air-purifying layer made from the same material as face masks—these curtains attack the problem from every angle. One layer kills the light, one absorbs the echo, and one filters the air. It's a complete system working together, not just a heavy piece of cloth.

Is the price for one panel or a pair (two panels)?

The price shown is for one velvet curtain panel. For a typical window with a balanced look, you may want to order two panels (quantity 2).

When entering Panel Width, should I input total coverage width or one panel width?

On the product page, the Panel Width you select/enter is the finished size per panel.

Per-panel width = (rod width × fullness) ÷ number of panels
Use the Size Guide on the product page to calculate step-by-step.
If you’d like help, email support@thehues.com with your product link and measurements.

My rod/window width is X—how many panels do I need and what width should each panel be?

The Panel Width/Length you enter on the product page is the finished size per panel.

Per-panel width = (rod width × fullness) ÷ number of panels
Example: 100" rod width × 1.5 fullness ÷ 2 panels = 75" per panel.
Click the Size Guide on the product page for a step-by-step calculator, or contact support for help.

Curtains need fullness—how much extra width should I add?

Different Header Styles correspond to different recommended fullness ratios.

Select your header first to see the recommended fullness in the Size Guide/selection area.
Our system will use this to calculate or suggest the best size for you.
Or, feel free to consult customer service for help.

Should I add extra length for puddling? What if I don’t have room for it?

Yes. You can choose Hover (about 1" above the floor for a clean look) or Puddle (about 3" onto the floor for a more dramatic look). In the product Size Guide, select the finish you want and it will automatically adjust from your floor measurement.

My required width/length isn’t listed (extra wide/long). Can you customize?

Yes. This made-to-measure velvet curtain listing supports per-panel width/length starting at 20" and going up to 200". If you can’t select your size, email support@thehues.com and we’ll help you plan the right split/join solution.

What is a Header Style, and which one should I choose?

A header style is the top construction of the curtain—how it’s made and how it attaches to your rod or track.

Rod vs. track: match the header to your hardware.
Look: flat vs. pleated vs. wave, etc.
Use: frequent opening/closing often benefits from smoother track-friendly headers.

If you’re unsure, start with the Header Style Guide and match it to your setup.

Should I use a track or a rod (especially for tall/heavy drapes)?

There isn’t a "one-size-fits-all" answer—it depends on weight, span, mounting location, and usage frequency. You can find specific load capacity information for reference on TheHues' Track and Rod product pages. For heavyweight drapes like these, or for extra-tall windows, we recommend prioritizing tracks with a load rating that matches your needs.

Do the curtains include S hooks/pinch pleat hooks, or do I need to purchase them separately?

It depends on the header you choose:

Grommet / Back Tab / Rod Pocket: no hooks needed—slides directly onto a rod.
Pleated / Pleat Hook styles: we include the appropriate hooks based on your selection.
Roman Rings / Clip Rings: rings/clips are typically purchased separately to match your rod diameter.

To confirm hardware for a specific SKU, email support@thehues.com with the product link or your order number.

Will my rod diameter fit your grommets/loops?

Rod Pocket works best with rods ≤ 1.25" diameter. For Grommet, the internal diameter is about 1.56" and it pairs best with a 1.5" rod. Always confirm against the header option you select.

Which option is the most effective for noise reduction / thickest, and which is best for my space?

This Moonlit curtain is one of our 4-layer soundproof styles. Because results depend on gaps, mounting, and room conditions, there isn’t a single “best for everyone.” For the most effective setup, focus on a tight seal (minimize top/side gaps) and adequate fullness. If you share your room type and window measurements, we can recommend the best option—email support@thehues.com.

Do you have decibel reduction data or an STC rating/certification?

For our sound-reducing curtains, noise reduction can reach up to about 15 dB under ideal conditions.
Real-world results vary based on installation (especially top/side gaps), room construction, and the noise frequency.
If you need any available test information for this Moonlit 4 Layers style or want a room-specific setup recommendation, email support@thehues.com with your measurements and photos.

You can also learn how to maximize results here: Soundproof Curtain Guide.

Why is Rod Pocket/Back Tab recommended for noise cancelling?

Rod Pocket / Back Tab can create a tighter seal around the rod and reduce gaps, which helps improve blocking performance. See Soundproof Curtain Guide.

What’s the difference between Same Fabric Liner and Comparable Color Liner?

Same Fabric Liner: the lining is made from the same fabric as the front, for a more consistent look from both sides (except the header area).

Comparable Color Liner: the lining uses a polyester fabric in a close-matching color for coordinated appearance and value.

Can you make pinch pleats (e.g., double/triple pleats)?

Yes. The guides list multiple pleated options such as Double/Triple French Pinch Pleat, Euro Pleat, Goblet, and Inverted Box Pleat. Availability depends on the header styles offered on your product page. See Measurement Guide and Header Styles.

Can you make blackout/soundproof curtains with the same color on both sides?

Yes:

For the same fabric and color on both sides (except the header area), choose Same Fabric Liner.
For a close-matching polyester lining, choose Comparable Color Liner. An exact match across different fabrics may not always be possible—contact support to confirm before ordering.

Can I order swatches? How do I order them?

Yes. Order directly from Curtain Swatches: select your fabrics/colors and add them to cart.

Limits and shipping/fees follow the latest information shown on the swatch page.

Are tiebacks included or sold separately?

It varies by product—please follow the options shown on this curtain’s product page. This listing lets you select Matching Tiebacks, which will show in your order/price. If you want tiebacks separately, you can purchase them from Accessories.
