Comparing Queen Bed Size to Rug Sizes / Basic Queen Beds Rug Suggestions
What size rug for a queen bed?
This heavily depends on the placement or the type of rug you are looking for. Adding an area rug under the queen-sized bed is the most classic and instantly elevating look. You might already know that a queen-sized bed measures 60'' x 80''. A great rule of thumb for the size is to have 1' of space around the bed's three sides, excluding the backside against the wall. This is a great starting point for what size rug under a queen bed you should get. The rug should start about one-quarter off from the back of the bed, making sure the back legs rest on the floor instead. With this foundation, you can think about the space available in the rest of your room and build on what rug size is the most desirable.
Here are some popular custom rug sizes and if they are suitable rug sizes for queen beds: - 4' x 6': Too small in general, it can be used as a runner on the side
- 5' x 7' or 5' x 8': The smallest size that could work as an area rug under a queen-sized bed
- 6' x 9': An excellent option for a regular-sized room, with around 24'' room around all three sides
- 7' x 10': The largest size that could work as an area rug underneath. Consider your room area too.
Other addition rugs
What if you are not looking for a rectangular-shaped area rug under the bed that will be an extension of the bed shape? Consider adding a round rug. Round rugs tucked under the bed are a great choice. The shape is more lighthearted and has a smooth overall appearance. The most ideal size we recommend is 8' for the round rug, but this will work better for larger rooms.
Small bedrooms with queen-sized beds
Smaller bedrooms are usually filled with queen-sized beds, which is totally understandable since you want to prioritize your sleeping experience. But this doesn't leave much room for rugs on the floor. If you still want to add something extra with rugs, the best option is to have some round or smaller sheepskin-shaped runners on the side.

Where is the Queen bed located in the room?
Most likely, in a bedroom, the Queen bed is located in the center with the back against the wall and an area all around the queen bed itself. But there might be situations where the bed is pushed up against one corner with only one or two sides exposed. For a regular placement which is one side against the wall, depending on the size of the rug, you want to place the rug covering the bottom two-thirds to bottom three-quarters of the bed. This will give the most ideal coverage and leave the room around the edges of the bed.
Smaller Area Rugs or Runners
If your room is on the smaller side for a queen bed, it means there is not a lot of space left for you to add huge area rugs underneath your bed. Consider adding a runner or an alternate shape like round or faux fur-shaped rugs etc. These smaller-sized rugs can be more flexible and add a hint of playfulness too. One of the important things in picking a bedroom rug is also to have a secure and anti-slip backing rug that will be secured. When placing a bed on top, it won't budge or slide around easily.
