What to Put in Christmas Stocking?
In this article 3 sections
Christmas is just around the corner. You’ve likely already decked the halls with holly, trimmed the tree, and hung the wreath. But as the big day approaches, there’s one crucial detail that often gets left for the last minute: the Christmas stockings.
Stockings are the unsung heroes of Christmas morning. They set the tone for the day and are often the most fun to open. If you are stuck on how to style them or what to fill them with, this guide will help you play "Santa" like a pro.
Choosing the Right Stocking Size
Before you buy fillers, consider the size of your stocking. It determines the kind of gifts you can give:
- The 9-Inch Mini Stocking: These are compact and decorative. They are perfect for holding gift cards, cash, jewelry, or a handful of gourmet chocolates. They look elegant and don't require many items to look "full."
- The Classic 18+ Inch Stocking: The standard size (like the classic red velvet options). These are the real workhorses of Christmas Eve, capable of holding small toys, tech gadgets, skincare bottles, and more.
The Ultimate Stocking Stuffer Guide
Stocking stuffers are traditionally smaller, fun items. While an orange or chocolate coins are traditional, modern stockings usually contain a mix of practical items and fun treats. Here is some inspiration for everyone on your list.
For the Kids
When stuffing stockings for children, think "fun and immediate." You want items they can play with right away while parents drink their coffee. Skip the boring socks and go for:
- Sensory Toys: Fidget spinners, pop-its, or slime (always a hit).
- Art Supplies: Scented markers, crayons, or sticker books.
- Small Games: Card games, mini puzzles, or travel-sized board games.
- Treats: Kinder eggs, fruit snacks, or a small plushie.
For Adults
Adults can be harder to shop for, but the best stocking stuffers are things they use daily but rarely buy for themselves. This is also a great place to slip in "mini" versions of luxury items.
Lifestyle & Self-Care
- Beauty Minis: Travel-sized perfumes, hand creams, lip balms, or silk hair scrunchies.
- Tech Gadgets: Extra charging cables (everyone needs them), AirTag holders, or wired earphones.
- Wellness: Essential oil rollers, sleep masks, or bath bombs.
- For the Home: Unique ornaments, scented sachets, or small decor accents.

If you want to add a festive twist for the adults, mini alcohol bottles (nips) are a classic choice. Pair them with gourmet beef jerky, artisan chocolates, or a specialized bottle opener.
Personalize Your Holiday
If you have a full house, mixing up stockings can be a disaster. The best way to keep things organized—and add a high-end look to your mantel—is with custom stockings.
Consider letter-embroidered stockings from TheHues. Having each family member's initial on their stocking doesn't just prevent confusion; it creates a picture-perfect holiday aesthetic that looks great in family photos.
