What are window treatments?
Window treatments include curtains , drapes, blinds, and shades . Beyond controlling light and privacy, they affect your home's energy efficiency since many options provide insulation. The right choice can improve both how your space looks and how comfortable it feels.
What's trending in 2025?
This year's popular styles lean toward sustainability and smart technology.
Eco-friendly materials like bamboo, linen , and recycled fabrics remain in demand. These options appeal to environmentally conscious homeowners and bring a natural quality to interiors.
Motorized smart treatments with voice control and app integration offer scheduling based on time of day or sunlight levels. They work with existing smart home systems.
Layered looks combine sheer curtains with heavier options for more control over light and atmosphere throughout the day.
Minimalist designs with clean lines and simple color palettes continue to be popular, letting treatments complement rather than dominate a room.
Do soundproof curtains actually work?
Yes, within reason. They won't turn your room into a recording studio, but quality soundproof curtains reduce noticeable noise.
How they work : These curtains use multiple layers of dense material, sometimes including mass-loaded vinyl or other sound-absorbing components. The layers absorb vibrations that would otherwise pass through windows.
What to expect: Good soundproof curtains typically reduce noise by 25-40%. They're most effective against street noise, neighborhood sounds, and room echo. Many also provide thermal insulation, which can lower energy costs.
What to look for: Heavier weight performs better. Check for multiple dense layers. Make sure the curtains extend beyond the window frame on all sides for full coverage.

How to budget for Christmas window treatment sales
A little planning helps you save money without overspending.
Measure your windows first . Do this before the sales start. Accurate measurements prevent costly mistakes and help you identify exactly what you need.
Prioritize by room . If your budget is limited, focus on rooms where new treatments will make the biggest difference, usually living rooms and bedrooms.
Know the regular prices. Research pre-sale pricing on treatments you're considering so you can recognize genuine discounts.
Factor in installation. Decide whether you'll install yourself or hire someone, and include that cost in your planning.
Set a spending limit. Know your maximum before you start shopping and stick to it, even when deals look tempting.

Christmas shopping tips for 2025
Make a list beforehand. Write down what you actually need to avoid impulse purchases.
Use price tracking tools. Set alerts for items you're watching before the sales begin.
Check return policies. Understand the return window and conditions, particularly for custom-sized items. Made-to-order products often have different policies than ready-made items.
Download retailer apps. Some deals are app-exclusive, and checkout is usually faster.
Watch for inflated "original" prices. Stick with retailers you trust and verify that discounts represent actual savings.
Common questions
What's the difference between curtains and drapes?
Curtains typically use lighter fabric and hang to the windowsill. Drapes are heavier, floor-length, and often lined for better light control and insulation.
How much do quality window treatments cost?
Prices range from $50 to $500 depending on size, material, and features. Holiday sales can bring these down significantly.
Can I mix different styles throughout my house?
Yes. Many homeowners use different treatments based on each room's function while maintaining a cohesive look through consistent colors, materials, or design elements.
How do I measure for window treatments?
For inside mounts, measure the width and height inside the window recess. For outside mounts, measure the area you want to cover, typically adding 4-6 inches on each side and above the frame.
What's the return policy for custom curtains?
Policies vary by store. Made-to-order products like those from The Hues typically cannot be returned unless defective. Always check the specific return policy before ordering custom items.
