Thick Velvet Blackout Curtains for True Blackout Performance

Experience true, uninterrupted darkness. While many blackout designs allow a subtle halo of light to escape, our curtains are engineered for complete light control. This is achieved through a high-density weave paired with a specialized coating process, which blocks 100% of incoming light without the need for a separate liner.

Whether you’re a shift worker trying to sleep at noon or just setting up a home theater, these transform your room instantly. It's the difference between "room darkening" and "pitch black."

Custom beige blackout velvet curtains and sheer white drapery in a sunlit living room, offering elegant light control & privacy.

The Feel of High-End Design

Velvet adds instant glamour, but the quality of the finish makes all the difference. Unlike high-shine alternatives, the Quinn collection features a rich, deep matte finish that exudes sophistication.

While the velvet surface feels buttery soft, the fabric is designed with a firmer, substantial structure. This allows the drapes to hold their shape and hang in perfect, defined folds right out of the box. It’s the effortless way to achieve that curated, 'interior designer' aesthetic—pure luxury, simply defined.

Custom Fit Without the Custom Price Tag

The perfect curtain length is essential for a beautifully finished room. Since our curtains are made to measure, you can achieve the precise drape you envision—whether they just kiss the floor or puddle dramatically for a romantic look.

And because they’re OEKO-TEX® certified and safe for machine washing, you know they’re easy to care for and free from harmful chemicals. Safe for the nursery, perfect for the master suite, and built to last.

FAQ

Are these actually 100% blackout or just 'room darkening'?

These are the real deal. Our curtains utilize an advanced 100% blackout coating process directly on the fabric, meaning you get total darkness without the need for a separate, bulky liner. They block 100% of incoming light—literally turning day into night. If you're a shift worker, have a nursery to darken, or just love sleeping in, these are a game changer.

Does the velvet look shiny and cheap?

Hard no. We hate that cheap, costume-shop shine too. The Quinn collection has a rich, deep matte finish with a buttery soft hand-feel. They add instant sophistication and texture to a room without screaming for attention. It's quiet luxury at its best.

Will these heavy curtains pull my rod out of the wall?

Honesty time: these are substantial, heavyweight drapes (which is exactly why they provide such excellent thermal insulation). You definitely want to make sure your curtain rod is securely anchored into studs or uses heavy-duty drywall anchors. A flimsy tension rod probably won't cut it, but the upgrade is worth it for the insulation benefits.

Can I throw these in the washing machine?

Yes, you can! These curtains are designed for easy care and are safe for machine washing. We recommend using a cold, gentle cycle and tumble drying on low heat to keep them looking their best. No need for expensive dry cleaning.

Are they safe for a baby's room?

Absolutely. We know safety is huge, so the Quinn collection is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified. That's fancy talk for 'tested for harmful substances.' You can hang these in a nursery with zero stress knowing they're non-toxic and safe for the whole family.

Do these actually help with drafts and energy efficiency?

Yes! Because of the high-density weave and specialized coating, they act as a powerful thermal barrier. They keep the summer heat out and the winter chill at bay, helping you save on energy bills while keeping your home comfortable year-round.

Is the price for one panel or a pair (two panels)?

The price shown is for one curtain panel. For a typical window with a balanced look, you may want to order two panels (quantity 2).

When entering Panel Width, should I input total coverage width or one panel width?

On the product page, the Panel Width you select/enter is the finished size per panel.

  • Per-panel width = (rod width × fullness) ÷ number of panels
  • Use the Size Guide on the product page to calculate step-by-step.
  • If you’d like help, email support@thehues.com with your product link and measurements.
My rod/window width is X—how many panels do I need and what width should each panel be?

The Panel Width/Length you enter on the product page is the finished size per panel.

  • Per-panel width = (rod width × fullness) ÷ number of panels
  • Example: 100" rod width × 1.5 fullness ÷ 2 panels = 75" per panel.
  • Click the Size Guide on the product page for a step-by-step calculator, or contact support for help.
Curtains need fullness—how much extra width should I add?

Different Header Styles correspond to different recommended fullness ratios.

  • Select your header first to see the recommended fullness in the Size Guide/selection area.
  • Our system will use this to calculate or suggest the best size for you.
  • Or, feel free to consult customer service for help.
My required width/length isn’t listed (extra wide/long). Can you customize?

Yes. Most made-to-measure curtain listings support per-panel width/length starting at 20" and going up to 200". If you can’t select your size, email support@thehues.com and we’ll help you plan the right split/join solution.

What is a Header Style, and which one should I choose?

A header style is the top construction of the curtain—how it’s made and how it attaches to your rod or track.

  • Rod vs. track: match the header to your hardware.
  • Look: flat vs. pleated vs. wave, etc.
  • Use: frequent opening/closing often benefits from smoother track-friendly headers.

If you’re unsure, start with the Header Style Guide and match it to your setup.

Should I use a track or a rod (especially for tall/heavy drapes)?

There isn’t a "one-size-fits-all" answer—it depends on weight, span, mounting location, and usage frequency. You can find specific load capacity information for reference on TheHues' Track and Rod product pages. For these heavy velvet drapes or extra-tall windows, we recommend prioritizing tracks with a load rating that matches your needs.

Do the curtains include S hooks/pinch pleat hooks, or do I need to purchase them separately?

It depends on the header you choose:

  • Grommet / Back Tab / Rod Pocket: no hooks needed—slides directly onto a rod.
  • Pleated / Pleat Hook styles: we include the appropriate hooks based on your selection.
  • Roman Rings / Clip Rings: rings/clips are typically purchased separately to match your rod diameter.

To confirm hardware for a specific SKU, email support@thehues.com with the product link or your order number.

Will my rod diameter fit your grommets/loops?

Rod Pocket works best with rods ≤ 1.25" diameter. For Grommet, the internal diameter is about 1.56" and it pairs best with a 1.5" rod. Always confirm against the header option you select.

Is it 100% blackout? How effective is the thermal insulation?

Full blackout depends on the product and the lining you choose:

  • 100% Blackout products can achieve full blackout when installed properly with minimal gaps.
  • For most other curtains (excluding sheer/light-filtering styles), selecting a 100% Blackout Liner can dramatically increase light blocking.
  • Thermal insulation also depends on fabric thickness and lining—thermal/blackout fabrics or added liners typically provide better insulation.
Can you make pinch pleats (e.g., double/triple pleats)?

Yes. The guides list multiple pleated options such as Double/Triple French Pinch Pleat, Euro Pleat, Goblet, and Inverted Box Pleat. Availability depends on the header styles offered on your product page. See Measurement Guide and Header Styles.

Can I order swatches? How do I order them?

Yes. Order directly from Curtain Swatches: select your fabrics/colors and add them to cart.

Limits and shipping/fees follow the latest information shown on the swatch page.

Are tiebacks included or sold separately?

It varies by product—please follow the options shown on your curtain’s product page. Many curtain listings let you select tiebacks (for example Free Tiebacks / Matching Tiebacks), which will show in your order/price. If you want tiebacks separately, you can purchase them from Accessories.
